Meredith Brown was raised in Asheville, North Carolina where she began her dance training at a local studio. There, she worked with former Alvin Ailey company member Raquelle Chavis, which allowed her to develop a deeper love for Horton and other styles of modern dance. For her junior and senior year of high school, she attended University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where she performed repertory works by Merce Cunningham and Jose Limon, as well as original works by Ming-Lung Yang and Juel D. Lane. In 2020, after graduating, Meredith moved to New York to attend Fordham University, where she is currently a senior receiving her BFA in dance from The Ailey School. Meredith has also had the pleasure of furthering her training at intensives such as Complexions, LINES Ballet, UNCSA Professional Studies, The Graham School and many more. During the summer of 2021, Meredith danced as a trainee with Zeitgeist Dance Theater under the co-direction of Francisco Gella and Yusha Sorzano and she was grateful to return for the summer of 2022. Meredith had the opportunity to perform "Festa Barroca", and “Memoria” with the Ailey company during their season at New York City Center, as well as “Chasing the Spirit” choreographed by Hope Boykin performed at Alvin Ailey’s Spirit Gala. One of her most rewarding experiences was working closely with Madison Hicks on a piece titled “The Process of Unlayering” for the Ailey BFA Fall Concert as well their Spring Benefit Concert during her junior year. Meredith is also an alumni of the Jacob’s Pillow Contemporary Program, under the direction of Milton Myers, where she worked with many different artists such as Sidra Bell, Rena Butler, and Antoine Vereecken. This is her first season with the Moving Forward Collective and she couldn’t be more thrilled!
